Workload Generation at Environment of Capacity Planning
Information Systems are increasingly present in all activities of our daily lives and the most diverse areas of knowledge, from health, education, and communication to finance, security and entertainment.
Given the widespread use of information systems, the unavailability or poor performance of the services provided have been objects of attention of providers of services, infrastructures, designers of applications and the scientific community.
The Capacity Planning consists of the definition of the necessary resources so that the services provided (accomplished) by the systems assist the appropriate quality levels (response time, level of availability, etc.) to the processes that use these services or resources, considering future demands. So that this activity is accomplished with success is necessary that the funds are designed so that the associated costs are minimized and the levels of established services are assisted.
This project proposes the development of methodologies for workload generation toward the capacity planning of computational infrastructures.
Objectives
This project concerns the development of concepts and techniques of workload generation in capacity planning environments; the validations of these concepts, the development of prototypes and the use of these tools in case studies. In this sense, the project aims to provide reliable means for generation of significant workloads sceneries in a way to make possible the planning of computational resources, enabling studies on the effects of the number of processors, processing capacity and storage mechanisms. It is objective of the project, thus, allowing the research and influence of these resources in the performance of the system and, this way assist on the planning of computational infrastructure.
